APRIL FARMERS MARKET

Wine Tasting Joins Tavern Farmers Market

Northern Neck wineries will come to the Tavern Farmers Market in Heathsville, Saturday, April 19. Sponsored by the Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern Foundation, the event will take place in a special, secure area between the Transportation Building and the Carriage House at the Tavern complex.

The wineries will offer wine tasting, sell wine by the glass, and sell wine by the bottle from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bottle sales will continue to 5 p.m. In addition, the Tavern Restaurant will provide wine-tasting food to purchase. At this writing, four Northern Neck wineries have agreed to participate, with one to three more pending. Participants include Athena Vineyards & Winery, Belle Mount Vineyards, Oak Crest Vineyard & Winery, and Vault Field Vineyards.

Tickets for the winery event are $12 for advance sales and $15 at the gate. However, sales are limited due to the space available.

“We are hoping that bringing the Northern Neck Wine Trail to the Tavern will become an annual event for us as the wine industry grows,” said John Brandli, chairman of the event for the RH/HT Foundation, adding that the wine tasting is planned to enhance the Farmers Market.

As usual there will be other Farmers Market attractions from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., including blacksmith demonstrations, Quilt Guild display, Carriage House display, museum tours, and food. The Tavern Gift Store and restaurant will be open as well.
