SATURDAY, APRIL 17, 2010, 11AM-5PM - NORTHERN NECK WINE FEST

Heathsville, VA - The Northern Neck of Virginia has quietly developed a wine trail of its own winding from King George down to Irvington on the Chesapeake Bay.  A good way to sample these wines amid a casual country atmosphere at an historic site will be available at the Third Annual Northern Neck Wine Fest, Saturday, April 17 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tavern in Heathsville, Virginia.

Featuring wineries from Virginia's Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail, the Festival will be serving wines from Athena Vineyards & Winery, Wicomico Church; Belle Mount Vineyards, Warsaw; Ingleside Vineyards, Oak Grove; Oak Crest Vineyards & Winery, King George; and Vault Field Vineyards, Kinsale.  Many of the popular wine varieties from the winery tasting rooms will be available along with select gift shop items.

The Northumberland County landmark setting commemorates one of colonial Virginia's oldest courthouse taverns.  Last year there was a fire at the historic facility and now that restorations are complete the organization is offering the educational and tour programs that the community has grown to love.  “The Wine Fest is a unique opportunity to try out local wines and and visit the Tavern historic site,” said George Hollows, President of the RH/HT Foundation which is sponsoring the event. “Did I mention how beautiful the Northern Neck is at this time of year?”

Tickets are $10 in advance, $13 at the gate.  Admission includes a commemorative wine glass with an etched picture of the Tavern Blacksmith Shop. Food will be available and wine-by-the-bottle will be on sale until 5 p.m.

In addition, the Wine Fest coincides with the Heathsville Farmers Market taking place at the Tavern complex from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market features 50 vendors with local produce, plants, arts & crafts, jewelry, clothing, and luncheon treats.

The Tavern historic site is located on Route 360 in Heathsville, behind the Old Court House.  For ticket reservations and details, please call the RH/HT Foundation at 804-580-3377.
